Mission Statement
Agapè Catholic Marriage Preparation invites couples to a deeper relationship with each other and with Christ, one couple at a time. Online, on-demand instruction rooted in Saint John Paul II's Theology of the Body, combined with personalized mentoring from a trained married couple, builds a foundation for a strong, healthy, Christ-centered marriage between a man and a woman.
Christ himself said, "Without me you can do nothing..." John 15:5
History
Christian and Christine Meert, the founders, were married July 2nd of 1977 in France.
They have five daughters.
They both experienced a deep conversion: Christine on the Feast of the Presentation in 1982, and Christian in 1984.
Their conversion brought about a drastic change to their life in 1990 when they decided to join with their children, a Catholic lay community in France, leaving everything behind: job, friends, house… They received there a solid formation in theology and spirituality, with a focus on the Jewish roots of our faith.
At the invitation of Archbishop Chaput, their community opened a house of prayer in Denver, Colorado, in 1999. Christine and Christian were in charge of this new mission until the Summer of 2003. During this time, they started teaching their Marriage Preparation program in live classes for the Archdiocese of Denver.
In February 2004, Matt and Molly, living on the Rocky Mountains' western slopes, were unable to attend a Marriage Prep class in Denver. Christine suggested to do it via email. It allowed for a fruitful one-on-one mentoring and this is how the website's idea came up.
After fourteen years in the Community, Christine and Christian felt called to dedicate themselves fully to the strengthening of marriage. On May 10th 2004, CatholicMarriagePrep.com was born.
Archbishop Chaput offered his blessing and support to this new apostolate.
In July 2005, Bishop Michael J. Sheridan, Bishop of Colorado Springs, hired Christian and Christine to run the Office of Marriage and Family Life in his diocese.
"Christian and Christine Meert have dedicated their lives to preparing couples to live a happy and holy marriage. I am grateful that God called them to minister in our diocese." says Bishop Sheridan. "I wholeheartedly promote this program in the Diocese of Colorado Springs." he adds.
